NEET is an examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) and has 3 sections, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with 180 MCQs. No candidates below the age of 16 can write NEET-2 paper unless they are Class XI or XII Students writing Class XII board exams (CBSE/ICSE).

Age limit and proof of age and residence proof (for applicants below 16 years of age) is required to be mentioned at the time of registration. Proof of age and residence proof is mandatory while submitting an online application form, where the applicant has selected the "Other" option.

In 2017, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced an upper age cap and a maximum number of attempts for the National Eligibility cum National Merit (NEET) entrance exam. However, this rule was revoked by the Supreme court in 2017 and replaced with an upper age limit criterion. Open-school students were also ineligible for the exam in 2019. However, after the issue was revoked, they were allowed to appear for the test. Also, Biology was an additional subject that was also allowed for the exam.

The National Eligibility cum National Assessment (NEET) is a single-window entrance examination for admission to various medical and academic programs in India. It is held once every year and is based on the results of the All India level examination held in January. The National Testing Agency is the authority to conduct the NEET exam. Currently, there is no limit to the number of attempts for the exam. It successfully concluded the test on September 12, 2018. The three-attempt limit rule for the medical entrance test introduced by the CBSE in the year 2017 no longer applies. Therefore, all candidates can appear for the NEET exam as many times as they wish.

Candidates can appear in the NEET exam, if they have passed the intermediate examination or taken the same Intermediate exam more than twice. There is no upper age limit for this test. Candidates appearing in the examination are required to register themselves on the website. Check out our New course for Neet 2023 Vidyapeeth Dropper NEET 2023

## A Number Of Attempts And Age Limit For Neet

Please be informed that the number of attempts and the age limit for NEET will be as follows:

  • The minimum age at the first examination is 17 years old, and the minimum time required to obtain a qualifying score on examinations is two years.

  • CBSE also set an upper age limit for unreserved candidates at 25 years and reserved candidates at 30 years stating that “The upper age limit for NEET-UG is 25 years as on the date of examination with relaxation of 5 years for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category”

  • The confusion over the upper age limit and the number of attempts in NEET started after the Central Board of Secondary Education issued a notification in 2017. It stated that the number of attempts that a candidate can take in the examination will be limited to 3.

The introduction of the attempt limit rules had caused a furor among the students. After a week, the Medical Council of India scrapped it. However, the revised eligibility conditions were not clear. In 2021, the eligibility criteria for the National Technical Education Board (NEET) examination allowed those who were less than 25 years of age as of the date of the examination to fill the application form. However, there was a relaxation for those belonging to the SC/ST/OBC communities.

The above-mentioned upper age limit was removed from the National entrance examination (NEET) after students protested. It was later challenged in the courts and reinstated in 2018. In 2018, the upper age limit for admission to the National Entrance Test was reintroduced. However, this rule is not expected to be strengthened.

The upper age limit was removed from the list in March following a Supreme Court order. This was followed by the scrapping of the rule regarding the age limit. Also, check the Pathshala Dropper NEET 2023 (BETA) course of Physics Wallah to boost your performance.
